National Projects Focusing on Drug Security: New Goals and New Challenges
The goal of the pharmaceutical industry’s development strategy is to achieve national drug security. Starting in 2025, the national project ‘New Health Preservation Technologies’ describes the strategic focus of the industry’s modernization. By 2030, the goal is to achieve significant results in scientific research and development, introduce their derivatives into practical healthcare, including preventive medicine and healthy longevity technologies, and reach a high level of technological sovereignty in the production of drugs, biomedical cell products, and medical devices. However, the Russian pharmaceutical industry not only needs to reach a targeted level of technological independence and sustainability in order to ensure the uninterrupted availability of high-quality, effective, and safe drugs for all citizens, but also integrate its innovations into a global context and strengthen the country’s potential by building long-term international relations and disseminating breakthrough technologies and drugs on global markets. Russia has sufficient scientific and production resources to be a leader in the world rankings of pharmaceutical and medical innovations and influence the creation of strategic scenarios for the global future of the industry as part of fruitful international partnerships. How is the new national project consistent with the goals of ensuring drug security for Russian citizens? What challenges does it pose for the industry, and what resources will need to be mobilized? What achievements in scientific developments, pharmaceutical production, and regulatory practices are dictating the strategic potential of the industry today and contributing to the goal of drug security? How can we combine the best practices of Russia and other countries, and what contribution do Russia’s scientific and technological breakthroughs make to the development of pharmaceuticals globally?
