Beauty at Any Cost: Safety in Aesthetic Medicine

3 June, 16:00–17:30 Congress Centre, zone B, 2nd floor, conference hall B3
Aesthetic medicine is one of the most rapidly developing industries and has a major influence on contemporary perceptions of people’s physical appearance and quality of life. The growing accessibility of procedures, the introduction of new technologies, and the active promotion of services through digital channels are driving a surge in demand, but they are also exacerbating patient safety concerns. The pursuit of an ideal appearance often leads people to undergo an excessive number of procedures and resort to uncertified practitioners, which exponentially heighten health risks. The industry needs to strike a balance between the accessibility of aesthetic services and assurances of their safety. Which aesthetic medicine-related health risks pose the greatest danger to patients and require immediate attention? What state regulation and oversight measures need to be adopted or improved to elevate safety standards across the industry? How can we increase consumer awareness and personal responsibility when selecting aesthetic procedures and practitioners, including the ability to identify illegal home-based practices, as well as unregistered medications and medical devices? What role do the professional community and the industry itself play in drafting and adopting unified quality and safety standards, as well as in curbing unethical practices within the market?
