Drug Security Forum Releases Expanded Business Programme

The extended business programme of the ‘Ensuring Drug Security’ Russian Pharmaceutical Forum has been published on the event’s official website. The Forum will include expert sessions, roundtables, and a meeting between BRICS regulators in charge of the circulation of medical products and representatives of the pharmaceutical business. The event is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation and the Russian Ministry of Health with the support of the Russian State Duma’s Committee on Health Protection.

“Drug security and providing citizens with affordable, effective, and high-quality medicines is a top priority of our work. Initiatives to develop the domestic pharmaceutical industry and ensure drug sovereignty are supported at the state level, and new promising domestic drugs are being successfully developed. Today, the share of Russian drugs on the market is increasing, and the industry’s export potential is also on the rise, which testifies to the quality, safety, and affordability of the products we manufacture,” Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko said.

The business programme will include the session ‘New Approaches to Drug Circulation’. The challenges Russia has faced in recent years have shown that the development, registration, and commercialization of medicines can be significantly accelerated without compromising safety and quality. This experience is being actively used today. Regulatory changes are not only taking place in Russia, but throughout the entire Eurasian Economic Union. Experts will discuss what prospects exist for the development and use of a system to monitor the movement of medicines, how transparency and safety is ensured in the online pharmaceuticals sector and what prospects it offers for patient comfort, the role of drug therapy in clinical guidelines, and whether the standardization of processes affect the quality of medical care.

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most rapidly developing sectors of the Russian economy. In the current times, pharmaceuticals manufacturers, particularly high-tech Russian companies or ‘national champions’ as they are called, have become the main driving force in the development of innovative Russian pharmaceuticals due to their substantial investments in research and development and solid performance during the COVID-19 pandemic and success in implementing priority import substitution projects. However, the further development of the industry still hinges on improved measures for the funding of new developments and tools to provide government support to pharmaceutical companies. Participants in the session ‘Innovative Pharmaceuticals on the Path to Progress. What Is the Best Way To Stimulate the Industry’s Development?’ will discuss the best domestic and international practices and cases that exist today for funding pharmaceutical innovations and how digital financial assets and investment platforms will help the Russian pharmaceutical sector generate additional investment for development, among other issues.

The session ‘Women in Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare. Working Together for a Healthy Society’ will focus on the role of women in the healthcare system. The discussion issues will include: women’s role in the development of the pharmaceutical industry and ensuring the country’s medicinal sovereignty, what opportunities are available to Russian women today to ensure their professional fulfilment in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, develop skills, and acquire new knowledge, and what projects and tools could help bring women leaders together in the interests of protecting public health, among others. The session will be held with the support of the Eurasian Women’s Forum.
